About Churches Together in Wotton

Churches Together in Wotton

A Forum of Clergy and representatives of all the churches meets regularly to review past and discuss future events enabling the individual churches of the town to pray, worship, witness and work together:

· to explore our common Christian faith,

· to seek God's will for us

· to proclaim the Gospel by common witness and united service to the local community and the wider world

· to support each other, recognizing our individuality both as Christian people and Christian denominations

Events organised by Churches Together in Wotton:

  • in the week before Christmas Eve we act out a nativity play called The Living Crib, with real animals and a new baby!
  • in January the Baptist Church, United Church, Holy Cross and St Mary's hold prayers for the week of Christian Unity.
  • in March there are either Lent discusson groups or joint talks.
  • Easter is celebrated with a walk of witness through the town on Good Friday, and a Sunrise Service on Wotton Hill on Easter Sunday.
  • Christian Aid week takes place during May with various fund-raising events
  • in August each church takes a turn at hosting "Holiday At Home". This event provides meals, entertainment and fun for the elderly over a period of two days.
  • in September every two years there is a Churches Together Harvest Service, and on the fourth year a Town Harvest is held for all the community.

In between these events we also share in various secular events taking part in the town, eg the Christmas Fayre.
